Summer 2015: How I Completed My 1st "Life" Bucket List & Lived My Best Life
This summer I had one mantra for the way I wanted to live my life: “As long as it makes you happy.” My summer began in May as I celebrated a huge milestone in my life – graduating from college! After the hype of the celebration died down I found myself really upset over where I should be in life and the things I should’ve accomplished. I was unhappy about a lot of things and didn’t allow myself to live in the moment and enjoy God’s current blessings in my life.
I briefly moved across the country and spent June in Seattle. As I was reflecting on my time in the Pacific Northwest one evening a few questions popped into my head: Exactly whose standards am I trying to uphold? Who am I letting down? Who has been unpleased with my latest actions? I realized it was me. I had become my own worst enemy and convinced myself that I was letting myself down in more ways than one. I had all of these unrealistic expectations of what Itopia was supposed to be doing three weeks fresh out of college but that wasn’t my reality! I decided to flip a switch and CELEBRATE where I was instead of beating myself up about it. I claimed to let go of all my inhibitions and LIVE MY BEST LIFE (Thanks to Koru)!
Transitioning from summer to fall I reflected on my summer adventures and checked off my entire "life" bucket list! To date I have five bucket lists: life, love, travel, career and spiritual. Some of them are a little rough around the edges but they're a work in progress. My "life" bucket list is the most important to me. I reflected on some things that I was slacking on like relationships with family and friends, entertaining drama and negativity and allowing myself to doubt... I wanted to shift my focus to making sure that I was staying in tune with my interests and keeping up with the things that define Itopia (even though I'm still trying to figure out who Itopia is). I I knew certain things would make me really uncomfortable but that’s the point. As long as I’m making progress, that’s what matters! Here's what I came up with and yes, I completed every single item on the list!
I made my five bucket lists in March. I really had no clue how I was going to accomplish some of the things that I wrote down but I did. I wanted to really push myself to get back to the basics and relish in the little things. Some of the items might seem simple to you but I've found that on a day-to-day basis I rarely sit down and enjoy what's going around me. I'm either always on the phone, behind a computer or in front of a TV. This list allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone. It forced me to get active and make memories. I was able to travel the country, spend time with people who are dear to my heart, meet new people and relish in my happiness. I took a few photos from my archives to share with you the moments from my list! I hope this post inspires you to make a few bucket lists! What are some things you’d like to accomplish by the end of 2015 or start in 2015 and take with you in 2016? Share in the comments below!
